The United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (UNCRPD), adopted in 2006, is a global human rights treaty affirming that persons with disabilities must enjoy all human rights and freedoms on an equal basis with others. It recognizes disability as an interaction between impairments and societal barriers, shifting focus from charity to rights, dignity, and inclusion.
